Manufacturers’ Monthly magazine interviewed our director about the benefit of implementing a Quality Management System across an organisation.

Blurb: Anita Patturajan, director of Anitech, was recently interviewed by Manufacturers Monthly magazine, a trade publication focusing on the manufacturing industry within Australia. In their article, Anita discusses the benefits business’ stand to gain by certifying to an effective Quality Management System, explaining how it helps control risks, deliver an enhanced customer service experience, and ultimately, increase the business’ profits through the streamlining of operations and elimination of downtime. Titled “Why ISO Matters: Bringing quality and trust into the supply chain”, the article outlined a host of benefits business’ can gain by implementing the ISO 9001 Quality Management System Standards.

Manufacturers’ Monthly has long been one of the leading sources of information about what is happening within the manufacturing industry in Australia, and people from all over the country read it for insight into industry events, how regulations might be changing and what the responsibility of business’ is, and informative interviews with key industry figures. As such, Anitech was thrilled to have our director, Anita Patturajan, interviewed in the March edition of this trade publication, discussing “why ISO matters”, and how the implementation of a Quality Management System (QMS) can improve business processes through effective risk control.

The article, by Caroline Tung, discusses how effective quality management can help business’ in “maintaining strong supply chains”, and the benefits manufacturers stand to gain from achieving ISO 9001 Quality Management certification. It discusses how a QMS helps company’s control a range of risks, including “business risks, manufacturing risks, or… customer risks.” Anita noted that efficient quality management involves developing risk mitigation plans around these different risks, going on to explain how effective quality management across an organisation not only works at controlling a range of risks, but it also makes potential customers more likely to deal with your business, as it has demonstrated a commitment to high quality standards and customer support.

“When you reduce your risks to your end customers, that makes you attractive… you’ve got a product or service that delivers to your customers.” – Anita Patturajan.

The article discussed the importance of company’s taking advantage of the “expert knowledge” of specialist consultants from a range of different backgrounds and industries, to better help them achieve their larger business objectives. It specifically noted that an effective quality system pays for itself over time, as it “can reduce waste and decrease costs associated with re-work.” Further, it went on to discuss how it can lead to overall improvements in the quality of product or service in a number of ways, including stronger customer support and satisfaction, strengthened supplier management, and better on-time delivery.

An effective QMS is reliant on solid business relationships

Anita went on to discuss how a key component of an effective QMS is “strong working relationships” between key parties, and that “this relationship is built upon factors such as the sharing of knowledge, trust, and the development of clear incident reporting processes.” She explained how successfully certifying to a Quality Management System acts as a seal of quality for the business’ operations and demonstrates a “commitment to quality to their staff, stakeholders, and customers.”

Ultimately, what does an effective quality management system across their operations mean for business’? Anita provided some practical insight into what it means in real terms, stating that all the benefits business’ stand to gain from implementing an effective QMS – such as risk control management, regulatory compliance, and streamlined processes – all contribute to one extremely beneficial, tangible advantage – an increase in profits. She explained that a QMS “improves the business bottom line, which helps sustain the business, and allows for more focus on business improvement initiative than putting out fires.”
